Obverse description Square flan designed to evoke a traditional Portuguese azulejo tile panel, with the field composed of a coloured mosaic grid of individual square tiles rendered in shades of navy blue, olive green, golden yellow, white, and silver-grey. The legend PORTUGAL is inscribed across the upper portion of the field within tile-shaped letter compartments, while the denomination 5 EURO appears along the lower edge in the same tile-letter style. The date 2025 is arranged vertically along the left side of the field, and the heraldic arms of Portugal appear in the lower right quadrant as a small incuse device. The overall composition, designed by Eduardo Aires, abstracts the aesthetic of 17th-century Portuguese ceramic tilework into a geometric numismatic format.
