Reverse description The common reverse, designed by Luc Luycx, features a large numeral '5' dominating the left portion of the field, with the denomination legend 'EURO CENT' inscribed to its upper right. A globe rendered in a geographic projection occupies the lower right, with Europe prominently centered on the visible landmass, underscoring the coin's pan-European identity. Diagonal lines extend across the field from upper left to lower right, interspersed with six stars of the European Union in the lower left arc and six in the upper right arc. The engraver's initials 'LL' appear discreetly in the lower right field near the globe.

Additional information

Slovakia joined the eurozone on 1 January 2009, retiring the koruna after nearly sixteen years of post-Czechoslovak independence. The timing was fortunate: Slovakia locked in its euro conversion rate before the 2008 financial crisis fully destabilized currency markets across Central Europe, a negotiating outcome that neighboring countries still transitioning to the euro have since envied. These cents entered circulation on the first day of that changeover and have been produced continuously since.
