Reverse description A three-quarter facing bust of Pieter Cornelisz. Hooft, the celebrated Dutch poet, playwright, and historian (1581–1647), is depicted in period dress with a ruffled collar and decorative chain, rendered in fine relief. The background features a detailed panoramic view of the Amsterdam cityscape, including recognizable canal houses, a bridge over water, and medieval towers, evoking the Golden Age setting of Hooft's life. To the lower right of the portrait, a small crowned heraldic emblem is visible in the field. The inscriptions 'PIETER CORNELISZ. HOOFT' and the dates '1581-1647' appear to the right of the bust. The legend 'AMSTERDAM 1997' arcs along the upper rim.
