| Reverse description | Centrally placed quartered heraldic shield bearing the arms of the Archbishopric of Salzburg impaled with the personal arms of Wolf Dietrich von Raitenau, featuring a rampant lion and checky quarters alternating with roundels. The shield is surmounted by a galero (wide-brimmed ecclesiastical hat) with pendant tasselled cords descending on either side in multiple rows, a hallmark of archiepiscopal heraldry. The composition is framed by a wreath border at the rim, with the Latin motto legend DOMINVS REGIT ME (The Lord guides me) distributed around the field. |

| Additional information |
Wolf Dietrich von Raitenau was appointed Archbishop of Salzburg in 1587 at just 28 years old, backed by his Medici family connections through his mother. He transformed Salzburg into a baroque city largely by demolishing the medieval cathedral after a convenient fire in 1598 — a destruction many contemporaries suspected he engineered. His reign ended in 1612 when he was deposed and imprisoned by his cousin Markus Sittikus, partly over a territorial dispute with Bavaria and partly over his open relationship with Salome Alt, by whom he had fifteen children.
Multi-ducat gold issues of this period served diplomatic and ceremonial functions more than commercial ones. Zöttl 811 spans the full arc of his 25-year pontificate.
