Reverse description A quartered heraldic shield bearing the four-fold arms of Salzburg (the episcopal see) and Wellenburg (the personal arms of Matthäus Lang), surmounted by a cardinal's hat with pendant tassels arranged in three rows on either side. The shield is displayed within a beaded inner circle on the square klippe flan. The surrounding legend reads: + SANCTVS RVDBERTVS EPVS SALZBVRGN, invoking Saint Rupert, the patron saint and first bishop of Salzburg.
