Reverse description Within a raised inner circle, a detailed scene depicting the Circumcision of the infant Jesus set within a classical temple interior with columns in the background. Several figures are shown gathered around a central altar or table upon which the Christ Child is presented, with a priest or high figure officiating at centre and the Virgin Mary standing to the right. The scene is executed in high relief with finely engraved detail. The surrounding legend in Gothic blackletter script bears a scriptural quotation from the Gospel of Luke referencing the naming of Jesus.
