Obverse description Conjoined busts of Archduchess Claudia de' Medici and her son Archduke Ferdinand Charles of Austria facing right, both finely rendered in high relief in the Baroque manner; Claudia, the mother and regent, appears slightly in the background draped in a widow's veil, while Ferdinand Charles is depicted in the foreground wearing elaborately decorated armour with a lace collar. The surrounding Latin legend reads clockwise from the top: • CLAVDIA • MATER • ET • FERDINAND : CAROL : FILIVS • ARCHIDVC : AVST. The coin is bordered by a fine beaded inner circle.
