Obverse description Right-facing crowned bust of Carl X Gustav, wearing an elaborate jewelled crown, long flowing hair, lace cravat, and richly decorated armour with ornamental clasps and floral embellishments. The effigy is rendered in high relief in a finely detailed Baroque style characteristic of engraver Sebastian Dadler. The date 1645 and engraver's initials SD appear in the lower exergue beneath the truncation. A circular Latin legend surrounds the bust along the periphery.

Reverse description A detailed Baroque harbour scene depicting vessels on the River Dvina near the docks of Riga, with a dramatic clouded sky above. In the upper portion, two rampant lions support a crowned civic shield of Riga. The entire composition is framed by a continuous Latin legend along the periphery, proclaiming the coin's origin as solid gold of the city of Riga.
