| Obverse description | Helmeted bust of Athena facing left, rendered in high relief in a classical Grecian style, wearing a crested Attic helmet with elaborate plume detail. A small owl, the symbol of Athena and Athens, appears in the left field above the date inscription '490 A.CHR. / 1960'. The surrounding legend reads 'GRAECIA ANNO A.CHR.N. CDXC PUGNA MARATHONIA VICIMUS', commemorating the Greek victory at the Battle of Marathon in 490 BC. |
