Obverse description Helmeted bust of Athena facing left, rendered in high relief in a classical Grecian style, wearing a crested Attic helmet with elaborate plume detail. A small owl, the symbol of Athena and Athens, appears in the left field above the date inscription '490 A.CHR. / 1960'. The surrounding legend reads 'GRAECIA ANNO A.CHR.N. CDXC PUGNA MARATHONIA VICIMUS', commemorating the Greek victory at the Battle of Marathon in 490 BC.

Obverse lettering GRAECIA ANNO A CHR N CDXC PUGNA MARATHONIA VICIMUS
Reverse description Central ornamental cross-like device composed of symmetrically arranged stylized acanthus or floral branches, radiating from a central shield-shaped cartouche bearing the denomination 'V DUCAT' in two lines. The fineness mark '980' appears at the base of the central motif. Two small floral rosettes flank the lower field. The circular legend reads 'PRO PROSPERITATE MUNDI' in the upper half and 'AUREUS MAGNUS' in the lower half, separated by decorative stops.
