| Obverse description | Bare-headed effigy of the young King George I facing left, rendered in high relief with finely detailed naturalistic hair. The engraver's signature BARRE appears incuse below the truncation. The circumferential legend reads ΓΕΩΡΓΙΟΣ Α! ΒΑΣΙΛΕΥΣ ΤΩΝ ΕΛΛΗΝΩΝ, and the date 1873 is positioned in the exergue. The plain field and bold portraiture are characteristic of the Parisian essai style executed by the Paris Mint's chief engraver. |
