Palau's lunar series coins are produced under a licensing arrangement that outsources design and minting entirely — the Republic itself has no mint facility and issues these through contracted European producers, most commonly the Bavarian State Mint in Munich. The coins are legal tender in name, but Palau's actual circulating currency is the US dollar.
