Obverse description The central field features the Coat of Arms of the Republic of Liberia, depicting a sailing ship approaching shore, a dove in flight, a rising sun, a plough, and a palm tree, all within a shield surmounted by a scroll bearing the national motto. The arms are encircled by a double legend reading 'REPUBLIC OF LIBERIA' and 'THE LOVE OF LIBERTY BROUGHT US HERE'. The word 'MILLENNIUM' is boldly inscribed in large letters around the outer border, with the date '2000' appearing at the base.

Additional information

Liberia's late-1990s and early-2000s commemorative program was one of the most prolific — and commercially cynical — in modern numismatic history, producing hundreds of themed issues with little connection to Liberian history or monetary need. Most were struck by private mints in Europe and Asia for direct sale to collectors, never entering circulation in Liberia at all.
