| Reverse description | A stylized cartoon depiction of a seated monkey rendered in a playful illustrative style, shown holding and eating a banana with one hand raised above its head. The Chinese character for monkey (猴) appears to the left of the central device in gold-toned relief. The legend YEAR OF THE MONKEY arcs along the upper border in gold-toned lettering, framed by an ornamental border of beaded and Greek-key motifs. The date 2016 is inscribed in the lower field beneath the central design. |

| Additional information |
Palau's lunar series coins are produced under a standing arrangement with a private mint — the island nation itself has no mint facility — and the "Year of the Monkey" issues from 2016 attracted collector attention partly because the Monkey year coincided with a surge in Chinese-market demand for precious metal lunar pieces, driving secondary market premiums well above face value almost immediately upon release.
