Additional information

Liberia has issued commemorative five-dollar pieces bearing American presidential portraits since the 1990s, producing dozens of types across multiple series for the collector market rather than domestic circulation. None of these coins were ever intended to pass as currency in Liberia, where the Liberian dollar in smaller denominations handles daily commerce. Taft is an unusual subject — more often remembered as Chief Justice of the Supreme Court than as the 27th president, a role he reportedly found miserable compared to his later judicial appointment.
