Obverse description The obverse of this rectangular silver bar bears three applied stamps in relief. The largest is a circular stamp depicting a left-facing crowned portrait of Queen Victoria within a beaded border, with the legend HONG KONG • SHANGHAI • SPECIE • OFFICE surrounding the device. To the left are two smaller stamps: an oval stamp bearing the cypher V.R. surmounted by a crown, and a rectangular stamp with the Chinese characters 足銀 (fine silver). The fineness mark 999.9 is stamped in large numerals at the upper left of the field.
