Casino scrip of this type occupied a legal grey zone for much of the mid-twentieth century — issued as a substitute for chips at table games or in slot redemption programs, it functioned as a limited-circulation currency backed by nothing more than the house's willingness to redeem it. The Tropicana's association with the Ramada Inn corporate umbrella dates to Ramada's acquisition in 1979, which helps date scrip carrying that co-branding to the 1980s at the earliest.
Collectibility here is driven less by rarity than by the difficulty of documenting these pieces at all — casinos rarely archived their own scrip issues, and most were destroyed or surrendered at the cage.
