| Obverse description | The central field bears the Barbadian coat of arms, flanked by the country name BARBADOS arched above and the denomination 5 DOLLARS below, with the national motto PRIDE AND INDUSTRY on a ribbon at the base of the shield. Surrounding the central device within a raised inner border is a richly detailed frieze of marine fauna rendered in high relief, including fish, sea turtles, crabs, lobsters, eels, seahorses, and other Caribbean reef creatures. Barbados has issued wildlife-themed bullion coinage through the Scottsdale Mint since the mid-2010s, part of a broader wave of Pacific and Caribbean sovereign partnerships producing high-weight, large-format silver rounds with genuine legal tender status. The "Spotted Seal" belongs to that program — struck to .999 fineness at three troy ounces, a weight tier that appeals to stackers rather than numismatists.
The spotted seal (Phoca largha) is native to the North Pacific and has no geographic connection to Barbados whatsoever. The pairing of issuing authority to subject matter is purely commercial.
