Obverse description Central vignette carries an intaglio portrait of President Abraham Lincoln within an oval frame. To the left appear the Register's and Cashier's signatures of the issuing national bank, while the Treasurer's and President's signatures flank a brown Treasury seal to the right. The note bears the charter number and title of the issuing bank in letterpress, along with the obligation and redemption clauses standard to the 1929 Type 1 National Currency series.

Reverse description The entire reverse is printed in green intaglio. A central oval vignette presents a frontal view of the Lincoln Memorial in Washington D.C., rendered with fine architectural detail including its colonnade and reflecting pool approach, set against a guilloche-enriched background. Numeral "5" counters occupy the upper left and upper right corners, with the word FIVE repeated vertically at both lateral borders, and the denomination legend FIVE DOLLARS inscribed across the lower portion of the design.
