Additional information

Shishapangma — the only 8,000-meter peak located entirely within Tibet — was first summited in 1964 by a Chinese expedition, making it the last of the fourteen eight-thousanders to be climbed, largely because foreign mountaineers were denied access to the region for decades. Palau has issued numerous silver pieces tied to Himalayan peaks, mountain wildlife, and marine conservation, a strategy that has made it one of the most prolific novelty-coin issuers relative to its actual population of roughly 18,000.
