The Antarctica Overseas Exchange Office Ltd was not a central bank, a government treasury, or any kind of official monetary authority — it was a novelty issuer producing souvenir notes for the collector market, operating under a name constructed to sound more official than it was. This particular note was never intended to circulate as currency anywhere, including Antarctica, which has no indigenous monetary system of its own.

British American Banknote Co. of Ottawa, a legitimate security printer with a long history of producing genuine government issues for Canada and abroad, handled the physical production — which gives these notes a technical quality far exceeding their actual monetary standing.
