Queen Mary 2 completed her maiden voyage in January 2004, sailing from Southampton to Fort Lauderdale — and a minor industry of commemorative coinage followed almost immediately. Liberia has long issued collector-targeted pieces bearing little relation to its domestic economy, and this 2005 piece is squarely in that tradition: struck for the international novelty market rather than any Liberian monetary purpose.
