| Obverse description | The national coat of arms of Liberia occupies the central field, depicting a three-masted sailing ship approaching a shoreline with a palm tree and a rising sun, above a plough and a spade in the lower shield; a ribbon scroll above the shield bears the national motto THE LOVE OF LIBERTY BROUGHT US HERE, and a smaller scroll below reads REPUBLIC OF LIBERIA. The legend REPUBLIC OF LIBERIA arcs around the upper periphery, flanked by two doves, while the date 1997 appears in the mid-field to either side of the shield. The denomination 5 DOLLARS is inscribed along the lower border, all within a beaded inner border. |
