Liberia's Central Bank issued a long series of commemorative crown-sized copper-nickel pieces throughout the 1990s, almost none of which saw genuine domestic circulation. This Diana issue was produced in 1997, the year of her death, and almost certainly rushed to market or already in distribution when the Paris crash occurred in August. The commemorative coin market flooded with Diana pieces almost immediately after, rendering individual issues largely interchangeable to all but dedicated topical collectors.
