Casino chips and tokens get the collector attention, but private-issue casino paper scrip occupies a genuinely odd legal space — permitted under Nevada gaming regulations as a promotional instrument redeemable only on the property that issued it. The Palms Casino Resort opened in November 2001, funded by the Maloof family, and quickly positioned itself as a younger, hipper alternative to the Strip properties. Laurie Gardner served as the Palms' casino cashier cage manager, the standard signing authority for scrip of this type. The signature is functional, not ceremonial — it established internal accountability rather than any banking equivalence.
