| Obverse description | The national coat of arms of Palau occupies the central field, depicted as a shield enclosing a figure of Neptune seated amid waves, holding a trident, accompanied by a mermaid to his right and a treasure chest to his left, with a star above; the shield is framed by an ornate floral and beaded border. Above the shield, a traditional Palauan outrigger canoe with a paddler is rendered in relief against a mirror-polished black field. Eight six-pointed stars are arranged in a semicircle around the left and right flanks of the design.
