Palau's collector coin program has, since the late 1990s, operated essentially as a licensing arrangement — the island nation issues legal tender on behalf of foreign mints, almost entirely for the numismatic export market rather than domestic circulation. This piece is part of a UNESCO World Heritage Sites series, a format that numerous Pacific microstates have used to generate revenue through collectors in Europe and Asia.
Salzburg's Altstadt was inscribed on the UNESCO list in 1996, recognized largely for its Baroque architecture and the density of surviving medieval street plans within the city center.
