Obverse description The Jamaican coat of arms occupies the central field, featuring a quartered shield bearing five golden pineapples on a black cross, supported on the dexter side by a female Taino figure holding a basket of fruit and on the sinister side by a male Taino figure holding a spear. A crocodile passant surmounts the wreath-encircled helm as the crest. A ribbon below the shield bears the national motto OUT OF MANY ONE PEOPLE. The country name JAMAICA arcs along the upper legend, while the denomination FIVE DOLLARS and the date appear along the lower portion of the field, with the Franklin Mint mintmark visible in the lower center.
