Additional information

Liberia has a long history of issuing collector-oriented commemorative pieces featuring figures entirely unconnected to Liberian history, effectively licensing its sovereign coining authority to produce what the trade bluntly calls "fantasy" or "world leader" series coins. Mihai Viteazul — the late 16th-century Wallachian prince who briefly united Wallachia, Transylvania, and Moldavia under a single ruler in 1600 — was a natural target for this kind of issue, given his enduring status in Romanian national memory.

These pieces were never intended for circulation in Liberia. The market was Romanian collectors.
