Obverse description The obverse displays the coat of arms of the Republic of Palau at center, depicted as a shield featuring a crowned Neptune figure holding a trident, accompanied by a mermaid, set against a backdrop of waves and marine imagery, with a crescent moon and star above. A traditional Palauan outrigger canoe appears above the shield. The circular legend 'REPUBLIC OF PALAU' arcs along the upper periphery, flanked by eight small five-pointed stars evenly distributed around the field. The denomination '5$' is inscribed in the lower field, while the motto 'RAINBOW'S END' appears within the base of the shield.

Reverse description The reverse presents a highly detailed polychrome depiction of the Mausoleum of Halicarnassus, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, rendered in a three-quarter architectural view dominating the central field. The monumental tomb is shown with its characteristic stepped podium, colonnade of Ionic columns supporting a sculpted frieze with relief figures, and a stepped pyramidal roof crowned with a sculptural quadriga group. Colorful cypress trees and lush green shrubbery rendered in applied color surround the base of the structure, lending vivid naturalistic contrast to the otherwise silver field. The legend 'THE MAUSOLEUM OF HALICARNASSUS' arcs along the upper periphery in raised Latin characters, with the date '2009' inscribed in the lower field to the right, and a small series logo device visible to the lower left.
