Gandhi's image has appeared on commemorative coinage issued by dozens of countries, but Nauru's 2010 piece is among the smallest gold strikes bearing his likeness — half a gram at 11mm places it firmly in the novelty bullion category that flooded the market in the late 2000s as gold prices climbed past $1,000 per troy ounce.
