| Obverse description | The central device features the shield-shaped coat of arms of Liberia, depicting a sailing ship at sea, a palm tree, a rising sun, a dove in flight, a plough, and an anchor in the lower field. The national motto 'THE LOVE OF LIBERTY BROUGHT US HERE' is inscribed on a ribbon across the upper portion of the shield, with the legend 'REPUBLIC OF LIBERIA' arcing along both the inner upper and lower periphery. The date '2004' is divided by the shield, flanking it at the left and right. The denomination '5 DOLLARS' appears in the lower exergue, accompanied by the inscriptions 'FINE NIOBIUM' at lower left and the fineness mark '.999/1,000' at lower right.
