Reverse description A facing bust portrait of John Montgomery Ward, the celebrated 19th-century baseball player, manager, and labour organiser, is depicted wearing a period baseball cap and jacket, rendered in fine relief at the centre of the field. The legend 'JOHN MONTGOMERY WARD' curves along the upper periphery, while the motto 'IN GOD WE TRUST' and the date '1993' appear to the left of the portrait. The numeral '5' is prominently placed to the right alongside a small mint emblem, and 'FIVE DOLLARS' is inscribed along the lower arc. Engraver's initials 'HR' appear incuse below the bust.
