Reverse description Central field displays the Imperial German Eagle in high relief, depicted as a spread-winged heraldic eagle with a crowned head, bearing the Prussian shield on its breast and an anchor overlapping the base of the design, symbolising naval authority over the Kiautschou Bay concession. To the left and right of the eagle, in the field, appear two Chinese characters (青 and 岛, reading Qingdao) in raised relief. The legend DEUTSCH arcs along the upper periphery and KIAUTSCHOU along the lower periphery, both in Latin capitals, separated by a beaded border.
