| Additional information |
Palau achieved independence from United States administration on October 1, 1994, after decades of UN trusteeship — the last territory of the Trust Territory of the Pacific Islands to do so. The 1994 independence coinage was struck almost simultaneously with the political transition itself, making KM#9 one of the earliest coins issued under Palauan sovereign authority.
The .900 fine silver specification mirrors the old U.S. standard, a quiet continuity given the islands' administrative history.
