Obverse description Right-facing effigy of Queen Elizabeth II as depicted at age 77, bare-headed and wearing a necklace and earrings, after the portrait by Susan Taylor. The effigy is flanked by the commemorative dual dates '1952' and '2022,' separated by four pearls symbolising the four successive royal effigies that appeared on Canadian coinage during Her Majesty's reign. The legend encircles the portrait, and the field features a distinctive sunburst radial-line finish. The denomination '5 DOLLARS' and the engraver's initials 'SB' appear within the design.

Reverse description A naturalistically rendered portrait of a female polar bear (Ursus maritimus) with two cubs occupies the central field; one cub stands upright and leans against the mother, while the second cub walks rightward in the foreground, conveying a sense of familial movement and tenderness. A privy mark in the form of a 'mother and cub' paw print appears to the left of the composition. The entire field is rendered with a vivid sunburst radial-line finish that enhances the sculptural depth of the design. A circular legend surrounding the reverse declares the denomination, purity, and country of issue in both English and French.
