Obverse description The national Coat of Arms of the Republic of the Marshall Islands occupies the central field, depicting the frigate bird with outstretched wings, a sun rising above crossed traditional navigational sticks, a canoe under sail, and an atoll island scene with palm trees. The design is encircled by a decorative chain border. The date 1988 appears at the bottom of the arms, flanked by the navigational stick motif, above a ribbon inscribed SEAL. The legend REPUBLIC OF THE MARSHALL ISLANDS curves along the upper periphery, with the Marshallese national motto JEPILPILIN KE EJUKAAN along the lower periphery.
