| Obverse description | The central field displays the national coat of arms of Liberia, featuring a three-masted sailing ship at sea with a palm tree and a rising sun on the shore, all enclosed within a decorative shield supported by scrollwork. A ribbon below the shield bears the legend REPUBLIC OF LIBERIA. The date 2002 is divided on either side of the shield in the lower field. The outer legend REPUBLIC OF LIBERIA arcs along the upper periphery, while the motto THE LOVE OF LIBERTY BROUGHT US HERE appears on a banner within the design.
