Obverse description Right-facing diademed and draped effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, after the portrait by Ian Rank-Broadley, whose initials IRB appear below the truncation. The surrounding legend reads ELIZABETH II COOK ISLANDS in the upper field, with FIVE DOLLARS to the lower left and 1oz 999 silver to the lower right, separated by a raised dot on each side. The mirrored proof field provides a sharp contrast to the finely detailed bust.

Reverse description A sinuous, coiled snake rendered in full color dominates the central field against a dark background, its dark-scaled body entwining three vibrant orange-red roses with silver leaves arranged symmetrically in a figure-eight composition. Elaborate gold-colored floral and arabesque scrollwork decorates the left and right periphery of the field. A beaded inner border encircles the design. The inscription THE YEAR OF THE SNAKE appears in the left field, with the date 2013 below it.
