Victory in Europe Day — May 8, 1945 — was declared a public holiday in Britain and across much of the Commonwealth, yet Niue's connection to that war was anything but ceremonial. The island's small population contributed volunteers to New Zealand forces, and the territory was administered under wartime conditions that included strict rationing and communication blackouts enforced from Wellington.
KM#3922 is one of several issues in a broader New Zealand Mint commemorative program that collectively covered both VE and VJ Day anniversaries in 2020, each struck to a one-tenth-ounce specification in four-nines gold.
