| Obverse description | Right-facing effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, diademed and wearing a pearl earring, after the portrait by Ian Rank-Broadley, whose initials 'IRB' appear below the truncation of the bust. The legend 'ELIZABETH II' arcs along the upper left rim and 'COOK ISLANDS' along the upper right rim. The denomination '5 DOLLARS' is inscribed along the lower rim in bold capital letters. | Reverse description | Central to the reverse is a full-color photographic reproduction of the iconic golden funerary mask of Tutankhamun, rendered in vivid gold, blue, and polychrome enamel tones, dominating the left and center of the field. Behind and to the right of the color image, a relief engraving of the same mask is struck in the silver field, accompanied by incuse ancient Egyptian hieroglyphic scenes along the outer margins. To the upper right, the 'Eye of Horus' motif appears beneath the inscription 'HISTORY OF EGYPT'. The name 'TUTANKHAMUN' is engraved in large Latin letters along the upper rim, with the Arabic equivalent 'توت عنخ آمون' inscribed below it in smaller characters. The date '2012' appears in the lower exergue. |
