| Obverse description | Right-facing effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, diademed and draped, after the portrait by Ian Rank-Broadley, occupying the upper-left portion of the square flan. The field surrounding the portrait is intricately engraved with a composition of large interlocking clockwork gears and cogs in high relief, extending across the entire surface. A raised, shaped insert in the centre-right of the flan depicts a cluster of smaller precision gears in three-dimensional relief, simulating the interior mechanism of a timepiece. The legend ELIZABETH II arcs above the portrait, with the engraver's initials IRB below the truncation, and the denomination 5 DOLLARS and issuing authority COOK ISLANDS inscribed in the lower-left field, with the date 2017 appearing near the lower centre. |
