Additional information

Part of a three-coin series reproducing details from Hieronymus Bosch's triptych, painted around 1490–1510 and held at the Museo del Prado in Madrid since 1939. Cook Islands has issued numismatic series under licensing arrangements for decades, functioning effectively as a vehicle for novelty collector issues rather than domestic circulation currency — the islands' actual monetary needs are met by the New Zealand dollar.

The Prado acquired the Bosch triptych from the Spanish royal collections, where it had hung since at least 1593.
