| Additional information |
Spejbl is one half of a Czech puppet duo created by Josef Skupa in Plzeň in 1920, later joined by his son Čapek-inspired Hurvínek in 1926. The pairing became so culturally embedded in Czechoslovakia that the Spejbl & Hurvínek Theatre in Prague survived nationalization, the Nazi occupation, and the Communist era without closure — a continuity almost without parallel among European puppet institutions. Niue's numismatic program has long issued collector gold for licensable intellectual properties, and this piece falls squarely in that commercial series.
