Seismosaurus — later reclassified by paleontologists as a large specimen of Diplodocus following a 2004 reassessment — was among the longest dinosaurs known when this coin was issued, estimated at up to 33 meters. Tuvalu's early 2000s silver kilo and half-kilo programs were essentially struck on behalf of the island nation through external minting arrangements, targeting the collector market rather than any domestic circulation need. The reclassification gives this piece a quietly anachronistic quality: the name on the coin belongs to a genus that no longer formally exists.
