| Reverse description | Central device depicts a Royal Canadian Mounted Police officer in ceremonial dress uniform, mounted on a cantering horse and carrying an upright lance topped with a pennant, rendered in finely detailed relief against a plain field. The legend CANADA arcs along the upper periphery, flanked on either side by a small maple leaf device. The denomination 5 DOLLARS and the date 2020 are inscribed in two lines along the lower arc, separated by a raised dot. A beaded border frames the entire composition. |

Released as part of the RCM's ongoing fine silver fractional program, this issue commemorates the RCMP's 150th anniversary — the force was founded in 1873 as the North-West Mounted Police, primarily to assert federal authority over the newly acquired Rupert's Land territories ahead of the anticipated influx of American settlers and whisky traders crossing the border into what would become Alberta and Saskatchewan.
