Additional information

Released as part of the RCM's ongoing fine silver fractional program, this issue commemorates the RCMP's 150th anniversary — the force was founded in 1873 as the North-West Mounted Police, primarily to assert federal authority over the newly acquired Rupert's Land territories ahead of the anticipated influx of American settlers and whisky traders crossing the border into what would become Alberta and Saskatchewan.
