One of fourteen silver collector coins issued across 1973–1976 to fund Canada's hosting of the 1976 Montreal Olympics — the first Summer Games held in Canada. The rowing design belongs to the second series, released in 1974, with each series pairing two sports on companion five- and ten-dollar denominations. Two varieties exist for this issue, distinguished by the water lines below the waterline of the shell, a subtle die difference catalogued separately as Ch#RC-1412a and RC-1412b.
