Perth Mint has produced commemorative issues on behalf of Tuvalu since the early 2000s, exploiting the island nation's willingness to license its monetary authority for collector series that have no connection to Tuvaluan economic life. The arrangement is straightforward: Tuvalu provides legal-tender status, Perth provides everything else.
This piece is one of nine in the Planets series, each individually released. The five-ounce format places it in Perth's mid-tier collector range, below the kilo issues but above the standard one-ounce program coins.
