Additional information

Issued to mark the 150th anniversary of representative government in the Cayman Islands, established when the British Crown granted the islands an elected assembly in 1832. That assembly was a modest affair — the islands had fewer than 5,000 inhabitants at the time — but it gave the Caymans a degree of self-governance unusual for such a small Caribbean dependency. The 1982 commemorative program coincided with a broader reassessment of Cayman's constitutional relationship with Britain under the 1959 constitution.
