Issued in anticipation of the 2012 London Games, this bimetallic type belongs to a broader BVI commemorative program that leaned heavily on the Olympics as a licensing opportunity rather than any direct territorial connection to the events. The titanium centre was a deliberate production choice — titanium takes colour treatments that silver cannot, allowing mints to differentiate issues within the same series by toning the core.
