Obverse description Right-facing crowned effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, as modelled by Raphael David Maklouf, occupying the centre of the square flan, wearing the George IV State Diadem and a pearl drop earring. The legend QUEEN ELIZABETH II curves along the upper-left edge and TUVALU along the upper-right edge, separated by raised dot stops, with the date 1998 inscribed below the portrait in the lower field. The deeply mirrored proof fields provide strong contrast against the finely detailed, frosted relief of the effigy.
